San Francisco offers some of the most diverse shopping in the United States. One minute you’re walking down Market Street—home to high-end designers and big-chain retail stores—and the next you’re lost in a maze of local artisan boutiques or endless racks of vintage items spanning every era of the last century. Whether you’re looking for a memorable souvenir, designer duds, or a treasure just waiting to be found, San Francisco’s shopping districts have it all. Today, I will introduce you the best five women’s stores in San Francisco.

414 Jackson St, San Francisco, CA 94111
PIA is a fantastic addition to the Jackson Square neighborhood. The store carries a wide range of designers, clothing types, and price points. They also have a lovely collection of gold/diamond jewelry co-designed by the owner as well as a small selection of shoes, bags, and other accessories. The shop itself is spacious and sunny, with high ceilings and large windows. While there are only two dressing “rooms,” they are very large and well-lit. The shop has a second floor loft area that I imagine they will eventually be putting to use. I believe that it has enough variety to cater to all shoppers.

One of the most refreshing aspects of walking into Susan of San Francisco is that it doesn’t feel like any other store. The decor is modern and minimalist, but the clothes are daring. Susan has an eye for lasting design; nothing in the shop feels trend driven. These are not the clothes you’ll find in a luxury flagship on Union Square. This is where you go for a showstopper that no one else will be wearing. Whether you love them or hate them, the things you find at Susan will make you think.

1660 Haight St, San Francisco, CA 94117
Wasteland has amazing curation. Go here if you were planning on breaking the bank for a designer piece, but want to get it 50% off retail price. Everything is cool, timeless, rocker-chic. Lots of vintage high end designer pieces too! Some sale items intermingled if you’re lucky to find. Super fun shopping experience with good music, space, and non-pushy employees.

425 Hayes St
San Francisco, CA 94102
In a city where the fashion sensibility can seem to swing between schlubby fleece zip-ups and unabashed label flaunting, Rand + Statler finds middle ground. The focus is on quality staples: little black dresses, leather jackets, dark denim and oversized leather bags. The curated accessories cases bear jewelry both dainty and bold by designers like Gabriela Artigas and Catbird, and a gift-ready table near the entrance is stacked with products by culty Aussie skincare line Aesop.

2056 Fillmore St, San Francisco,CA 94115
Head to Elizabeth Charles’ namesake boutique, which has been a fashion presence on Fillmore since 2007. Charles curates a unique mix of merchandise from designers Isabel Marant, Ulla Johnson, Alexis, Self Portrait, and Yigal Azrouel. Elizabeth Charles appeals to the fashionable women who seek more classic items they can wear long term rather than ultratrendy pieces. While the store itself is small, narrow, and minimally decorated, it feels as though you’ve stepped into the oversize closet of an incredibly stylish friend.
